This was NYC tv's first successful talk/variety kids tv show. Created, produced and mc'd by radio/tv broadcaster Ray Forrest, the series introduced the studio audiences and the viewers to games, craftmaking, hobbies, dramatazations of famous plays, informational segments, nature films (Which were produced, written and narrated by Mr. Forrest), interviews with guest performers and personalities and members of the studio audience and trips to events and places of interest to kids. The program was also the first NYC based kids tv show to screen the 1958 color version of The "Crusader Rabbit" TV Cartoons and "Pow Wow The Indian Boy" TV Cartoons.

"Children's Theater!" was seen Saturday mornings on WNBT/WRCA and on WNBC TV Ch.4 in NYC. During the month of June, 1961 "Children's Theater" taped a series of shows on location at "Freedomland USA" (NYC's most ambitious theme park). Ray Forrest would show the creation and delvelopment of the park and discuss it's purpose in recreating events from American history with park officals and technicians. "Children's Theater" would continue to entertain and inform it's viewers and studio audiences until the station execs at WNBC TV Ch.4 in NYC closed down the theater in June, 1961.

Following the cancellation of his series, Ray Forrest would leave NYC tv and become a successful jewelry store owner in N.J. He would remain in the retail jewelry store business until the 1980's. Ray Forrest died in 1999 a half century after "Children's Theater!" debuted in NYC.
