In the fall of 1989, Chuck McCann returned to local kids tv with this daily comedy/ variety show.
Set against the backdrop of a local video store, McCann and his stock clerk Barry (played by actor and mime Barry Thompson, brother of Lea Thompson of "Caroline In The City" and "Back To the Future" Fame) would engage their customers in contests, games, informational segments, interviews with guest performers and personalities and character comedy and puppert skits. They would also introduce "Kidsmercials" (Kids would write, produce and videotape their own ideas of tv commercials and send them to the show. This concept was first used on Sonny Fox' version of WNEW TV Ch.5 NYC's "Wonderama!".
The live segments were wrapped around reruns of The Warner Brothers "Looney Tunes" and Walt Disney Movie cartoons. "Chuck McCann's Funstuff" was seen weekday mornings on KHJ TV Ch.9 in Hollywood, California from Monday September 18, 1989 until the series was cancelled on Friday October 13,1989.
Sonny Fox and Chuck McCann were the series executive producers and creators. Chet Dowling (Who was the producer and writer for the Chuck McCann/ Paul Ashley version of WPIX TV Ch.11 NYC's "Let's Have Fun!") was the producer and head writer for this series. This was Chuck McCann's, Sonny Fox' and Chet Dowling's last tv series. |
